Parrot perch addition

Watching Bella, our cute yellow-sided green cheek conure, play with things around the house made me realize something – best toy are often the simplest. While she seems to enjoy all the sophisticated toys hanging in her cage and on perches around the house, she seems even happier simply shredding pieces of cardboard… 🙂

Here’s an easy way to make a quick and fun addition to any suction cup perches installed on windows. Not only it makes for hours of fun for birdies, but also prevents them from chewing on the suction cups and helps avoid the perch accidentally breaking loose.

Simply cut 4″ x 4″ (which is roughly 10cm x 10cm) squares out of cardboard box, and cut a 2″ x 0.5″ (5cm x 1cm) slit in the middle. Then slide it over the suction cup. Can’t get much simpler than that. Make some extra for easy swapping when needed.

I’m using it with 2 different perches:

Bella loves to chew on pieces of cardboard, it usually lasts her for couple weeks (maybe thanks to the number of perches we have, she could chew through a single set of those squares in couple days 🙂 ):

She noticed the fresh cardboard ready to be shredded immediately:

Cutting those takes only few minutes, and I’m sure most of us have a steady supply of Amazon boxes. This is better than recycling, it’s upcycling for our feathery friends 🙂

Such a small thing and yet it makes for a happy birdie! 🙂
